Chattanooga 10/04/19 - 10/05/19

Stats: Total days - 25, Travel days - 16, Miles today - 32, Total miles - 924

Only 32 miles today, but it was probably the most scenic water I have boated in.  It was really neat to come up on the river through the gorge.  The scenery and houses were incredible.  I posted a few pictures, but could have taken a lot more.

 Indian Staircase?

Yes - that is a volleyball net.

 Downtown Chattanooga.
 Waterfall stairs

We arrived and got tied up at Erwin Marina.  It is a gated dock right downtown.  Met a couple local boaters here and started happy hour with them early.  They were a lot of fun, and even Cluck Norris came to hit on their skinny friends.

They recommended going to Stir for dinner.  We listened and the food and drinks were great.  Spicy pork tenderloin for me and Marcia got the fried shrimp.

After dinner we walked around and saw the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

Also based on the local recommendation, we decided to hike it to a Speak Easy, London Calling.  You entered through a phone booth, and then had to use a pay phone to answer a question.  The question was "what year did Tyson bite the ear of Holyfield?"  After answering, the door unlocked and you could enter.  The bar was really cool with everything modeled after the 1930's era.  We both had to order their specialty drinks.  (Thanks Mark Evans).   As we were sitting there, the 2 local couples from the boat dock came in and we ended up sitting with them.  I did have to get a London beer and then finish it off with a PBR.

We all walked back to the boat.  The walk ended up being about 1.5 miles, so  am sure it offset all the food and drink.  Back at the dock, I ended up sitting out with people from the boat behind us.  They were smoking cigars so I felt it only polite if I had one also.  I did pick up a fresh Fuente Short Story as there was a cigar shop right next to the Speak Easy.  Ended the night with 3 bourbons and the cigar.  Yes - it made for a slow morning.

After breakfast, we walked up to tour the Aquarium here.  It was huge with a salt water side and river side.  It took about 3 hours to walk through.  There is a bluegrass festival going on here also, so we did walk through and listen to a band for awhile.  They do like their banjos down here.  Had a couple local craft beers just because.  Went to Puckets for lunch.  Pulled pork sandwich and bake beans.  Marcia got the brisket and was very good.  Got back to the boat and took it easy.  Marcia watched Penn State chalk up another win.  Walked down and had a few drinks with the boaters from last night.  They were headed up to the Wine Over the River festival.  Wine booths set up on the walking bridge just in front of us.  We opted out of going.  Sure it would have been fun, but not sure I had $80 of wine tasting in me.  It also brought back memories of  Lonz's winery hangovers from my younger days at Put-in-Bay.  I am sure the wine would have been better than that.  Temperatures have dropped off a bit, so it is nice on the flybridge with beer and cigar as I am typing this up.

We think we may walk across the bridge tomorrow for bunch. Bloody Mary bar, Mimosa's and Filet Mignon eggs Benedict.  After that we plan to uber up to Rock City and Lookout point.  If weather prediction improves we plan to head back down the Tennessee River on Monday.  Might need move on to take a break from all this vacationing. :)

Oh, for those of you who are wondering, Lucy seems to be doing fine.  She definitely likes the no travel days.
