Day 3 - Pomeroy

Stats - Miles today 55 - 1 lock (3.5 hours) Total miles 215 - 3 locks

We finally got the rain that they were predicting last night.  Between the rain, the wind, and the barges, we did not sleep that great.  We got up and untied lines around 9:00.  Really kind of an uneventful day on the river.  Not much to see other than trees and shoreline.  Passed a few barges today but have not seen any other pleasure boats.  I am using the AIS (Automatic Identification System) with all of the barges that I am passing.  Doubt it changes what I would normally do, but I am not getting yelled at for my wake by any of them.  They say pretty much the same thing, "keep her rippin on my 1", "just pick a side".  If nothing else it breaks up the miles.   Had to work my way around some dredging just before going into Robert C Byrd lock.
We did pass by Gallipolis.  Glad we did not try to go back into the marina here, doubt we would have made it.
Just pass Gallipolis we went by the Kanawha river.  We did go up that river many moons ago to visit Charleston WV.
Very windy and cloudy today.  Had no rain until just when we were trying to dock in Pomeroy at their free wall.  Marcia sported her rain jacket and we were able to get tied up just as the rain was stopping.  The wall is not fancy, but we are tied up.  No water or electric, but depth was OK for me to get in.  Temperatures are  dropping, so doubt we will need to run the generator for air again tonight.

We walked into town to check things out.  Think we saw 2 stop lights.  Not much here other than antique shops.  Felt like I was walking through Mom and Dad's basement again.  I think I actually saw one of our old dinner tables.  We did find the Wild Horse Cafe.  The bartender said he could make a great Bloody Mary, so I had to put it to the test.  I would give it a 8 out 10.  It needed a shrimp, pickle or olive to complete it.  Marcia got a Mule, but no copper cup.
Nothing in town looked that great for dinner, so we decided to try out our new pots and cook up spaghetti.  Everything worked well and dinner was good.  We did have a couple of kids walk down the dock to look at the boat.  I swear the only thing missing was they did not have banjos.  I did like the duct tape holding the shoe together, reminded me of my youthful days.
Marcia continues to acclimate the cat.  Today was harness and leash and she was brought out to check out the bridge.  She continues to hide most of the day when we cruise but comes out later after we stop.
Thanks for the comments and reading.  Will try to post again tomorrow.

    1. we are cruising about 20mph. Have to slow down some, but not much boat traffic during the week. Locks take some time.
